What's Important To St James

Jesus Christ

We believe in the good news that we can have peace with God, forgiveness of our sins, and the sure hope of eternal life, through faith in Jesus Christ. This is all made possible through his death on the cross in our place, and his rising to new life. The heart of Christian life is to know Jesus personally, and we want to strengthen this relationship in all who come to St James.

The Bible

We are an evangelical church, which means we believe that the Bible, (both Old and New Testaments), is inspired by God and tells the truth about God and his will for people, and so has authority to guide us today. Above all the Bible tells us about Jesus Christ. The Old Testament prepares for the coming of Jesus, the Gospels tell of his life and the rest of the New Testament spells out its meaning for all people.

Our faith grows strong as we read the Bible for ourselves, discuss it with others, and hear it preached about in church. So teaching based on the Bible is central to the life of St James.

Church

‘The Church' is not the clergy or the building! It is all those who have committed themselves to Jesus Christ. The church is more like a family. We all have a responsibility to share in worship and to love one another. We want people to be excited as they discover we are all important to God, and that he wants us all to serve him in the church, in our families and work places, and in the world around us.

Concern For The Community

St James does not exist for its own benefit. We are here to share Christ's love with others. So we want to be involved, both as individuals and as a church, in meeting different needs in the community. Our buildings are used by many groups for the benefit of the people of Alperton. At the same time we encourage Christians to love their neighbours enough to tell them of salvation through Jesus Christ.

Multi-Racial

We are committed to Alperton and we want our church to reflect the people here. Christ came for all people, and we rejoice in the multi racial nature of the world wide church. We want our church also to be multi racial, not only in membership, but also in leadership. Our church life aims to reflect the many different cultures found in Alperton.
