More About Church Leaders And Readers

Toby Crowe

Toby trained as a Primary School teacher in South London before coming to faith in 2004. He worked as a Parish Assistant at St Joseph's Notholt before taking the step to become ordained and studying at Ridley Hall Cambridge. Toby along with his wife Emma and young son moved to St James in the summer of 2009.

Amelia Jacobs - NSM

NSM stands for Non Stipendary (ie unpaid) Minister.

Amelia is an ordained priest and leads the Pakistani fellowship, and takes the Urdu services on Sunday afternoons, as well as taking a full part in the main services.

She also used to run the After School and Breakfast Clubs.

Jeremy Rowett - Reader

Readers are a link between the ordained ministers and the lay people of the congregation. Our ministry is part time and unpaid, and we are licensed by the Bishop to carry out some of the duties of ordained ministers; and we are automatically members of the Parochial Church Council.

In practice this means we can lead Sunday worship, preach, and take study groups on weekdays. We usually also have a role in pastoral support, and mine is to take home communion once a month to members of the church who are housebound.

I have been a Reader for 31 years now, 21 of them at St. James. I am a civil servant and have been so for 36 years now, nearing retirement. I work in the Government Office for London on planning matters, and try to bring my Christian witness to my work experience. My wife Rosemary and my daughter Lucy are part of the St. James fellowship and exercise their respective ministries in it. Lucy was confirmed last year. I find my role as satisfying and fulfilling in serving my God and my fellow human beings.

Joyce Holiday - Reader

I have been a member of St.James for over fifty years, and a Reader since 1984. Over the years I have also been a Sunday School teacher, Pathfinder leader, PCC Secretary and PCC Treasurer.

I have been a member of St.James for over fifty years, and a Reader since 1984. Over the years I have also been a Sunday School teacher, Pathfinder leader, PCC Secretary and PCC Treasurer. At present I am a member of the Guidance Group, am on the Parish Church Council, am a member of the Finance Committee, and act as Planned Giving Officer.

I feel it is a privilege to be a member of a multi-racial church such as St.James.

I have now retired from my secular employment as Administrative Officer for an international scientific research organisation.
